Birdwatching Tower “Kirkenes”

Project description: The bird-watching tower is needed by the Kerkini Management Authorities for observation of birds that are under protection and tracking. The tower will be also used by visitors for bird observation and photography. Since the lake and surroundings have zero light pollution, the tower will be also used by the local astronomy organization Astropili Serrwn for sky observation and astronomy.

The tower is going to be placed at the end of the part of the road along the lake that is accessible to the general public. The other part, further that point, is prohibited to visitors so as not to disturb the protected bird species. This part of a road close to the tower-site is an embankment over the lake that is accessible by car even during the summer period that the water level of the lake is high. Though, for the last part, a 4x4 car is highly recommended.

The tower is part of a project “Northern Landscopes: From Kirkenes to Kerkini”.
